MSSL: Commissioners Report – March and April 2025

Hello one and all…..

I apologize for having to combine two months into one, but it has been a very busy time.  First, there has been a lot going on with the league and then trying to get used to my new brother after 76 years. (I won’t go into the details here, but it has been a fantastic experience.)

1)..Spring season 2024 had 9 rainouts.  So far this season we have had 8. Our plans did not work out to well.

2)..We had alumni visits in March from Butch Colner and Dave Romero.  Great to see them…Also had a short visit from Steve Jankowski.  (Think he will return eventually-time will tell)

3)..Counted all your votes for choice of entree for our MSSL picnic.  Hamburgers and hot dogs won out over Bill Olsons lasagna which we had last year and was outstanding.  If you haven’t tried his restaurant, you are missing out.  It is really good.

4)..Picnic date set for Wednesday, May 7, 2025, at the Wild West Arena.  Beginning a 1100.

5)..In early April, we had a board of directors meeting.  It was decided that we would make up the rainouts and the planned vacated dates and add them to the end of the season.  Bob Curley took care of the revised schedule which has been published.  The season will end on June 5, 2025, and the board also decided to exclude the end of season tournament due weather conditions (heat).

6)..The short summer season will begin in mid-July and run to about the middle of August.  Sign-up sheets will be in the dugouts on May 6, 2025.

7)..We are planning our exhibition game with the Mt. San Jacinto College girls’ softball team on Halloween. More details to follow later…

8)..The board of directors is looking at some changes to the league organization.  We might be changing some titles and responsibilities during the next year.   Our May board elections may be delayed a month or two. Watch for an announcement.

9).. On May 8, 2025, the city will be having a zoom type meeting which Frank and I will participate in to give suggestions on improvements that they can make to the fields, their organization and a few other things.  If any of you have suggestions that you want me to submit, send me an email to (bobfuhrmann@gohuskies.com),

10)..For those that use batting cages, we have a new one in the Sun City area.  It is called Velo Training facility.  It is located near the Stater Brothers. The address is 27192 Sun City Blvd. Menifee,,,Phone number is 951-635-6292.  Check it out and give us some feedback.  Dont know yet if they provide a discount but it never hurts to ask.

11)..We did very well with our budgeting this season.  We currently have in excess of $3,000.00 in the bank.  Future payments will be field use for May and June, awards for 2025 Spring season, our picnic, and possibility of new balls.

12)..We will be presenting our 2025 Ed Hustead Sportsmanship of the Year award at the picnic.

13)..Think that covers it for now.  See you at the fields and of course at the picnic.

Respectfully

Bobby..
