Commissioners report – February 2025

Gentlemen…
Hi everybody.

Here I am after a long layoff from any ballplaying.

The best laid plans do not always work. With being forced to start later than usual
due to the city working on the fields, and to avoid some of the 9 rainouts that we
had last year, starting the first week of February did not exactly produce positive results,
but we finally got started on February 4th.

We had a great opening day. Pastor/MSSL member Joseph Acton led a fantastic opening prayer, Roy Lantz presented the colors, and Jack Fisher’s grandson sang our National Anthem live.

Mrs. Virgie Lozano with her son Brian were in attendance as we had a moment of silence for Bill.

A couple of teams got off to hot starts going 4-0. Way to go Peter and Ted.

We did have one rainout and another game postponed due to a city rule about field preparation after a rain.

John Foutris was laid to rest in Long Beach. We did not get the arrangements in time to attend.

Centennial Park is getting a new outfield fence which is located behind the current one. It will help prevent balls from going into the street. They finished 2 sections on Feb 27th, and we will see how many they do. This is on the west field.

We plan to hold the league picnic earlier this year to avoid the heat. We will use the same venue but have a quiz for the food selection. Do we want Italian like last year or go with a
traditional All-American menu of hamburgers and hot dogs? Let your manager know.

We also plan to have your favorite band return.

That’s it……..See you next month.

Bobby
